Bem, procurei me livrar do véu da ignorância e achei isso aqui (espero que
te ajude):

(*Link aqui:* http://wiki.debian.org/Debian_GNU/kFreeBSD_why)
Here are the reasons why we think Debian GNU/kFreeBSD could be preferred to
other systems such as FreeBSD and Debian GNU/Linux.
They're not absolute truths, nor do we expect everyone to agree with them.
So please don't engage in an endless discussion trying to convince someone
that Debian GNU/kFreeBSD is the best. Those kind of things do us more harm
than good.
*Why would you prefer Debian GNU/kFreeBSD to Debian GNU/Linux?*
- Standardized kernel interfaces:
- Single /dev implementation via devfs, instead of the 3 discordant
ways of handling /dev that Linux provides.
- OSS as the default sound system (i.e. the standard interface
supported by almost every Unix-like system around).
- OpenBSD Packet Filter (pf).
-
Security features, like
jails<http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=jail>.
-
Support for NDIS drivers in the mainline kernel. On Linux,
NdisWrapper<http://wiki.debian.org/NdisWrapper>is unlikely to make it
into the mainline kernel.
- Support for ZFS in the mainline kernel. Due to license and patent
issues, ZFS is unlikely to appear on Linux.
- kFreeBSD is less vulnerable to legal issues. Licenses are managed in a
centralized manner compared to Linux kernel's bazaar-like development model.
-
kFreeBSD developers often have more interest in merging new features
rather than spawning forks all along (the port to Xbox is a very good
example. See the responses from Linus
Torvalds<http://www.uwsg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0307.1/2019.html>and
kFreeBSD
developers<http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-arch/2005-October/004519.html>).
-
kFreeBSD may have better performance and/or stability especially in
disk/filesystem areas with ZFS; but see EXT3
benchmark<http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=debian_kfreebsd&num=1>).
- The FreeBSD kernel might support some hardware which Linux does not
support and/or the FreeBSD kernel support might be better (fewer bugs).
*Why would you prefer Debian GNU/kFreeBSD to FreeBSD?*
- If you like the Debian package system (or its package set) more than
FreeBSD ports (just a matter of preference).
- If you like GNU userland more than BSDish one (again, just a matter of
preference).
- If you don't have anything against GPL or other copylefted free
software licenses, you'll appreciate that useful kernel modules like ext2fs
driver, the upcoming reiserfs and xfs, or the upcoming ethernet driver for
Xbox are (or will be) compiled in on the default kernel.
- If you're concerned about running a 100% free system, our commitment to
the Debian Free Software Guidelines (DFSG) guarantees that Debian
GNU/kFreeBSD doesn't contain any non-free software. In fact, we have removed
some non-free binary-only drivers that are contained in the upstream FreeBSD
tree, like the ath driver.

Hi people maybe I can shed some light on your confoundings (as in surprise &
confusion)..
Please don't start a flame war over this observation/opinion as I am truely
attempting to show the other side.
I am a 15 year Linux User/Developer and have used PCBSD for about 5 years...
True I haven't installed FreeBSD since 1996... Currently, I have been
investigating an install of GNU/kfreebsd 8.1 myself..
So, let me help by first getting all misgivings out of the way by
saying..........
Linux is a Slow, Bloated, Unstable, BUG ridden, Inferior OS that will cause
God himself to forsake you (if one is to use it.) I have it on good
authority that God is a FreeBSD user.. ..maybe that will break the tension..
*The reasons for creating and Using a GNU/kfreebsd are as follows:*
1. It allows a uninitiated Users a Simpler install vehicle to a FreeBSD
kernel.. (as PCBSD)
2. As there are multiple BSDs this is just another Choice to help Draw in
BSD users.
3. As a Bridge those that are familiar with Linxu Working/File Structure can
Learn BSD commands.
4. Most Users are stingy with time investment ..GNU/kfreebsd minimizes
that....
5. A simple Linux GUI for additional Software sans Portage..
6. A deeper pool of Hardware Drivers..Again drawing in more New potiential
BSD Users..
..........So it is all about Experimentation and New Users...........
It goes on but it is all about the New the unfamiliar Masses that would be
the a thriving new BSD base..
The difference between the avg BSD user and the avg. Linux user is that the
BSD user has to be willing and eventually able to take on manual
configurations of all sorts..
So, please don't be offended. Be at least interested and perhaps this will
wet the appetite of Users that will go on to become genuine BSD users..
P.S. I have been reading and searching these forums for many years but never
had a need to post. I can only hope that this post is of some value.
Mais uma vez, gostaria de me desculpar com "os mestres" por meu
desconhecimento!
